It is my birthday on Monday and I have decided that this is the year I become “ageless.” Why is it that no matter how old we are we always feel like we are in our twenties or thirties? I guess it is because our spirit doesn’t age.

I heard someone say years ago that the eternal part of us is never damaged. I had to think long and hard about that because at one time I felt like my world and soul were very damaged.

But, now I think it is true.

Our office was broken into the other night. They stole all of the laptops, golf clubs and hard drives. It was devastating to my son, Jonathan who is our Chief Internet Officer. The book he was writing is now gone. Everything he had created, bought and kept for years is now gone. They took both of his laptops.

The thing I find odd is that this is the third time that we have been primed and ready for a quantum leap forward in our business and something has happened (seemingly out of our control) that has temporarily sabotaged it.

It used to be that I was the only one whose thoughts and beliefs affected the business because I was almost the only one in it. But, now we have a full office with all kinds of deep-seated beliefs and fears and there is no way I can know what they all are.

I have met with everyone in our office individually to assess their beliefs and fears.

And there is always another way to look at things. The gift for us is that it could have been devastating to our business if this happened six to twelve months down the road because of how fast we are growing and the number of people we are hiring.

The guys now realize the importance of getting insurance sooner than later and getting viral backup for everything. Explaining or continually reminding someone why they need to do something is nothing compared to a dramatic experience where they find out for themselves how important it can be.

And I am a big believer in allowing others to learn their lessons because I know how important and transforming it can be.

So I was grateful we had the funds to immediately go out and replace and upgrade all of the computers that were stolen. We are buying a surveillance system and I am very hopeful that my son will be able to recover at least one of his computers with his information intact.

Mastery With Love

The most adorable thing happened to me this week.

I have written several times about my two adorable granddaughters that live in Sacramento, California, Julietta and Nina, but I haven’t written much about my little grandchildren that live in Austin, Texas. That is because I haven’t had the same deep connection with them as I have with Julietta and Nina because they lived so far away from me.

Since I have been living in Austin, my relationship with each of my grandchildren here has been steadily growing and deepening.

My daughter Katrina has two adorable little sons, Nathan who is four years old and Jeremy who is two.

Whenever I am speaking with Katrina on the phone little Nathan wants to take his turn. What is so cute is how he tries to have a conversation with me as if he is a grownup. It is hard not to chuckle the entire time.

This week we were talking on the phone and as usual when he was finished with the conversation he said, “Okay, do you want to speak to mommy now?”

I told him yes and then told him I loved him and couldn’t wait to see him again.

Now, here is the adorable part.

He is a very passionate child and speaks with great emphasis, so with all the passion he could muster he replied, “I love you so much (pause) there is just no way to show you!”

Oh my gosh. It was the cutest thing I had heard in a long, long time.

And of course, it flooded my body and soul with love and warmth.

It made me realize once again how important love is to all of us. Love warms our heart, puts a smile on our faces and makes us feel like everything is right in our world.

Something else really cute happened with Nathan this week. Katrina had come over one morning with Nathan and Jeremy. I had a young woman, Virginia who fixes my raw food meals, in my home and they all met each other for the first time.

When Katrina was ready to leave, she came to give me a kiss and hug goodbye. Then she looked over into the kitchen where Nathan was saying goodbye to Virginia. Nathan had continued to stand by her, looking up at her after they had said goodbye. Katrina noticed and hollered over, “He wants a hug.”

Virginia said, “Oh.” A big smile spread over her face and she bent down and gave Nathan a hug. After they left she said, “They are just the most loving and adorable little boys. A lot of boys aren’t sweet like that.”

I thought it was so cute watching him stand there waiting for a hug before he left.

My five children that live in Austin (and my five grandchildren) are coming to my home tomorrow for Jonathan’s birthday party. There is so much love and fun when we all get together. We ride on the 4-wheelers with all the little ones, play basketball, have hoola-hoop contests, BBQ, play soccer, race the remote control cars, play chess, talk, tease, and laugh. Our family parties at my home go on for about eight hours. Next week we are all going to a local safari close to my home. There is always so much love and laughter when we get together and I always feel immensely blessed when I am with them.
